Laparoscopic stone surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that removes kidney or ureteral stones through 3 to 4 small incisions in the abdomen. How is Laparoscopic Surgery Done?

The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. Three to four small ports are placed in the abdomen. The surgeon operates using a high-definition camera and precision instruments. Total duration is typically 60 to 120 minutes.

General anaesthesia is administered. Three to four small ports (5 to 10 mm) are placed in the abdomen. Carbon dioxide gas inflates the abdomen to create working space.

Laparoscopic surgery is performed under general anaesthesia so you feel nothing during the procedure. Post-operative pain is much milder than open surgery and is managed easily with oral painkillers. Most patients are comfortable within 2 to 3 days.
Laparoscopy is preferred when the stone is very large, when there is an associated anatomical problem like UPJ obstruction, when PCNL has failed, or when the kidney anatomy makes percutaneous access difficult or unsafe.
